Deciding to write was the easy part. I’ve always dreamed of publishing the stories running wild in my head. I’ve never wanted to sell myself, the person behind the book, but I hope that the stories I write will take readers on an adventure to places they’ve never been: swept into the excitement of shipwreck diving in the Caribbean, slogging through the steaming tropical jungles of Honduras, or discovering buried treasures locked away for centuries.
Writing takes me to new shores and allows me to meet many diverse characters, good and bad. I thoroughly enjoy those moments when I can pluck an idea from my brain and allow the adventures to flow out of my fingertips onto paper.
But then comes the hours and hours of editing, chopping, rethinking and revising, and looking for ways to promote the story. Grueling, yes. But well worth the outcome. As I said, I don’t write to promote myself. I’m actually a bit of an introvert and I’m never comfortable with a lot of hoopla surrounding me. That said, I love to write and so long as it remains a song in my spirit I will continue to stir up those creative juices. Should it ever become burdensome, it will be the day I tuck it away, but I’m hopeful it won’t ever become a tedious routine. And so, I press on, still confident readers will be captivated by the stories and characters that emerge in these fictional tales.
